Peach County Baseball advances to the Sweet 16
DJ Hudson toed the rubber in the deciding Game Three against Savannah Country Day School and did not disappoint. The junior righthander battled the Hornets in a complete game three-hit effort with nine strikeouts.
"Our defense played well behind him today. A few double-plays and great plays helped him a lot. I was proud of the way the team supported him today. We played pretty good baseball. When we play 'clean,' we are capable of so much," said Coach Joey Hiller.
Offensively, the Trojans mustered just five hits, but they came at the right time. Xavion Childs, Nick Hardee, Wyatt Blanton, Bryce Harrelson, and Zion Hudson each collected one hit for Peach County. Blanton and Harrelson both had RBI for the Trojans. Thomas Gregory delivered a pinch-hit RBI, as well.
The Trojans' record is 21-12, the most wins since the team posted 19 in 2016 (according to MaxPreps). It will also be the first time Peach County Baseball has advanced past the First Round of the Playoffs since 2016.
Peach County will face defending State Champion Harlem High School (30-1) at Harlem on Monday, April 29, in a 5:00 DH and again on Tuesday, April 30, at 4:00 in a single game (if necessary).
"We look forward to stepping on the field against the best team in AAA. Coach Lewis at Harlem does a fantastic job with those guys. It will be a great experience for our young team, and we intend to put our best foot forward to represent Peach County High School and continue to lay the foundation for future success. Baseball is a funny game. You can compete with anyone when you go out there, play hard, and do the little things right."
