Peach Baseball claims Region 1-AAA title with 9-2 victory at Cairo
Powerful Pitching Performance From DJ Hudson Carries Peach County Trojans Past Cairo Varsity Syrupmakers
The Peach County Trojans secured their first Region Championship since 2009 with a road win at Cairo High School on Friday night.
DJ Hudson was dominant on the bump, as the righty rang up 14 strikeouts in Peach County Trojans's 9-2 victory over Cairo Varsity Syrupmakers on Friday. Hudson surrendered two hits and two runs over seven innings while walking three.
Cairo Varsity Syrupmakers got on the board in the first inning after Cannon Maige hit a solo home run to left field.
Xavion Childs singled to center field, which helped Peach County Trojans tie the game at one in the top of the second.
In the top of the third inning, Peach County Trojans went back into the lead after Rigsby Booth walked, Wyatt Blanton laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Cairo Varsity Syrupmakers committed an error, each scoring one run.
Zion Hudson hit a solo inside the park home run in the top of the fourth for the Peach County Trojans.
Ty Hatcher took the loss for Cairo Varsity Syrupmakers. The hurler went three innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits, striking out four and walking five.
Hudson led Peach County Trojans with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Scout Willingham went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Peach County Trojans in hits. Peach County Trojans had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Peach County Trojans ran wild on the base paths, collecting five stolen bases for the game.
Maige went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Gage Schafer and Maige each collected one hit for Cairo Varsity Syrupmakers.
Peach County Trojans will travel to Fernandina Beach Varsity Pirates for their next game on Thursday as a part of a very competitive Spring Break schedule that includes Camden County on Friday and Ware County on Saturday.
