Peavy strikes out 19 in 9-1 victory over Upson-Lee
On Thursday, Jackson Peavy struck out 19 batters as the southpaw led Peach County past Upson-Lee 9-1. Peavy allowed two hits and one run over seven innings while walking two.
The Trojans won thanks in part to five runs in the sixth inning. Trace Peaden induced Bryce Harrelson to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Zion Hudson drew a walk, scoring one run, Nathan Smith drew a walk, scoring one run, and Zachary Veillon drew a walk, scoring one run.
Peach County opened the scoring in the second after Xavion Childs singled, scoring one run.
Hunter Smith took the loss for the Upson-Lee Knights. The starting pitcher went five innings, giving up four runs on four hits, striking out six and walking five.
Peach County's Childs made the most of his chances at the plate. The number eight hitter led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Hudson, Childs, Harrelson, and Smith each drove in one run for Peach County Trojans. Nick Hardee paced the Trojans with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting 10 walks for the game. Harrelson and Hardee each stole multiple bases for Peach County. The Trojans ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game.
Peaden went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Upson-Lee in hits. Trae Jones stole two bases.
The Knights were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Walker Stevens had the most chances in the field with seven.
Peach County continues its three-game series with Upson-Lee on Friday at 5:00, a DH at Upson-Lee High School.
