Peach County sweeps Bainbridge with a score of 16-2 in Game 2 to advance to the Sweet 16

Shaniyah Gibson struck out 10 batters as the starting pitcher led the Peach County Lady Trojans past the Bainbridge Lady Cats 16-2 on Friday in Game 2. Gibson gave up one hit and two runs over four innings while walking six.

The Lady Trojans scored 12 runs in the first inning on the way to victory.  Kaylyn Hornaday doubled, scoring one run; Akira Everett drew a walk, scoring one run; Saniya Martin drew a walk, scoring one run; Laylah Foster was struck by a pitch, driving in a run; an error scored three runs; Hornaday was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Alyssa Crozier drew a walk, scoring one run, Alyssa Smith was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, Martin drew a walk, scoring one run, and Faith Corley drew a walk, scoring one run.

A hit by a pitch and a single by Everett helped the Lady Trojans extend their early lead in the second.

Kylaha Hughes took the loss for the Bainbridge Lady Cats. The pitcher went one-third of an inning, surrendering seven runs on one hit, striking out none, and walking three.

Everett went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Crozier, Hornaday, and Everett each collected one hit for Peach County. The Lady Trojans had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Martin and Everett led the team with two walks each.

Peach County will play in the Sweet 16 at home on Thursday and Friday next week at the Trojan Athletic Complex against the winner of the Pickens vs Dawson County series.  Those teams play each other at 11am on Saturday.
