Shaniyah Gibson powers the Lady Trojans past Spalding 16-6
Shaniyah Gibson hit two home runs and drove in four as the Peach County Lady Trojans defeated Spalding 16-6 on Monday. Gibson homered in the seventh and first innings.
The Lady Trojans got on the board in the first inning after Gibson hit a solo home run to center field.
A ground out by Akira Everett gave Peach County the lead, 2-1, in the top of the second.
Peach County scored five runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. Alyssa Crozier was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Alyssa Smith hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Everett singled, scoring one run, and Ta'Mori Hollingshed doubled, scoring two runs.
The Lady Trojans added four more runs in the top of the seventh inning on three hits. Taleyah Marable singled, scoring one run, and Gibson homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Gracie Martin earned the win for the Peach County Lady Trojans. The starter gave up nine hits and six runs (two earned) over six and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking four. Addison Risper took the loss for Spalding. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking one.
Peach County piled up 12 hits in the game. Everett and Hollingshed each collected multiple hits for the Lady Trojans. Peach County ran wild on the base paths, piling up four stolen bases for the game.
The Lady Trojans play at home on Tuesday against Cairo at 5:30.
