Peach Softball improves to 6-0 with 9-1 win over Schley County
The Peach County Lady Trojans quickly dispatched Schley County Varsity Wildcats on Monday, 9-1.
Schley County Varsity Wildcats were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.
The Lady Trojans captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the third when Summer Smith induced Taleyah Marable to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, an error scored two runs, and Kaylyn Hornaday doubled, scoring one run.
Gracie Martin earned the win for Peach County. The starter surrendered four hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking none. Smith took the loss for Schley County Varsity Wildcats. The starter went three innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking none.
In relief, Shaniyah Gibson pitched three innings of zero-run ball for the Lady Trojans. She allowed three hits, striking out six and walking none.
Peach County tallied 11 hits in the game. Alyssa Crozier, Akira Everett, and Ta'Mori Hollingshed each collected two hits for the Peach County Lady Trojans. Hornaday and Marable each drove in two runs for Peach County.
"I thought our girls competed well tonight. Gracie and Shaniyah both did well in the circle. We're still learning and growing as a team, and we've got a long way to go. The girls are getting better. We need more time and some consistent practice with everyone there. There's so much to work on, and these girls are receptive to instruction. I really enjoy coaching them," said Coach Joey Hiller of his team's 6-0 start.
The Lady Trojans play at home on Wednesday at 6:30 against Rutland in their next game.
