Peach County Softball takes down Rutland 17-2
The bottom of the lineup helped the Peach County Lady Trojans capture a 17-2 victory over Rutland on Wednesday. Saniya Martin, Ta'Mori Hollingshed, and Taleyah Marable combined for five of the team's nine hits in the victory. They scored six runs and drove in seven.
The Lady Trojans got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Shaniyah Gibson doubled, scoring one run; Alyssa Crozier laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run; Akira Everett singled, scoring two runs, and Hollingshed singled, scoring two runs.
Peach County scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. An error scored one run, Everett grounded out, scoring one run, Martin singled, scoring one run, Hollingshed singled, scoring one run, Marable doubled, scoring two runs, and Gibson singled, scoring one run.
A single by Martin, a walk by Marable, and an error helped Peach County extend its early lead in the third.
Crozier earned the win for the Peach County Lady Trojans. The hurler gave up two hits and two runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out six and walking two. Brielle Howell took the loss for Rutland. The pitcher went two and one-third innings, giving up 17 runs (13 earned) on nine hits, striking out one and walking four.
Hollingshed led Peach County Lady Trojans with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. Hollingshed went 2-for-2 on the day.
Martin, Gibson, and Hollingshed each collected two hits for the Peach County Lady Trojans. Alyssa Smith stole two bases.
The Lady Trojans travel to Savannah, GA on Saturday to compete in their second Diamond Day of the season. Peach County will open at 2:00 against Islands High School, followed by a game against host Savannah Christian at 4:30.
