Lady Trojans fall to ACE Charter 6-5

The Peach County Lady Trojans's effort to come back from down six runs in the second inning came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to Academy for Classical Education on Monday. Peach County closed the gap by scoring on a single and a home run.

The Lady Trojans lost despite out-hitting Academy for Classical Education six to five.

Shaniyah Gibson led Peach County Lady Trojans with three hits.

Academy for Classical Education jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after an error scored one run, Laney Bridges drew a walk, scoring one run, Madisyn Hallar singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs.  The Lady Trojans gave up six unearned runs that inning.

Peach County scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gracie Martin singled, scoring two runs, and Gibson homered to center field, scoring three runs.

Ella Allen earned the win for Academy for Classical Education. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking five. Gibson took the loss for Peach County. The starter went seven innings, giving up six runs (zero earned) on five hits, striking out 10 and walking eight.

Gibson led Peach County Lady Trojans with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 3-for-3 on the day.

Saniya Martin paced Peach County Lady Trojans with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing five walks for the game.

Hallar went 1-for-5 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Sophie Denney went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Academy for Classical Education in hits. Bridges led Academy for Classical Education with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Academy for Classical Education turned one double play in the game.

"The girls just really didn't play well tonight.  There were some bright spots and some good takeaways.  We didn't quit.  We continued to compete when things were not going our way.  Our girls need to play the game harder and with more purpose," said Coach Joey Hiller on his team's performance tonight. "We're going to continue to work very hard to teach the game and how to play it correctly."

Peach County welcomes Crisp County on Wednesday for their Senior Night game at 6:00.
