Peach County drops home contest to Veterans

It was a long night for the Peach County Lady Trojans, as they squared off against Class 5A #10 ranked Veterans High School on Monday night.

The Lady Trojans faltered defensively but fought back with a Kaylyn Hornaday 2-run HR to make the game competitive. Entering the 5th inning, the score was 7-5. More defensive miscues and free bases allowed the Lady Warhawks to regain a commanding 10-5 lead. They tacked on 4 more in the top of the 6th.

Hornaday and Shaniyah Gibson lead the Lady Trojans in hitting with two hits each.  Hornaday had three RBI.

"It was not our best showing," Head Coach Joey Hiller had to say of his team's performance. "We have some areas to address when we play competitive teams.  Our girls lack the much-needed experience necessary to relax and play clean softball.  They panic a lot.  It's my job to ramp up the workload and level of expectation so that they do not.  I love this group of girls.  They are very special to me.  We will get through this, and hopefully, by the time playoffs get here, we can compete with anyone."

Peach County opens Region 1-AAA play today at home versus Dougherty High School at 5:30.
