Lady Trojans fall to 19-3 after Region 1-AAA loss to Cairo

The Peach County Lady Trojans struggled to keep up with the Cairo Varsity Syrupmakers in a 16-7 loss on Tuesday.

Peach County got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Kaylyn Hornaday doubled and Alyssa Crozier hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Cairo flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 7-2. The most significant blow in the inning was a single by Makaya Logue that drove in two.

Shaniyah Gibson hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth for Peach County.

Cairo scored five runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Shimei Duvenhage singled, scoring two runs, Anna Rae Thompson singled, scoring one run, a wild pitch scored one run, and Logue tripled, scoring one run.

Jada Vickers earned the win for the Syrupmakers. The lefty surrendered six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Gibson took the loss for Peach County. The hurler went six innings, surrendering 11 runs on seven hits, striking out eight and walking eight. Breanna Jordan stepped in the circle first for Cairo Varsity Syrupmakers. The starter allowed six hits and four runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking none.

Peach County Lady Trojans tallied 12 hits in the game. Crozier, Saniya Martin, Hornaday, Gibson, and Taleyah Marable each collected two hits for the Peach County Lady Trojans. Martin and Alyssa Smith each drove in two runs for the Lady Trojans.

Cairo collected 12 hits in the game. Logue, Duvenhage, Karlynn Croley, and Thompson each collected two hits. Logue and Duvenhage each drove in three runs for the Syrupmakers. 

"This was not our best effort tonight, and we will learn and grow from this," said Head Coach Joey Hiller on his team's first Region 1-AAA loss.  "There are a lot of things that we need to work on.  I believe in this team and these girls."

 

Next up for Peach County is a game at Perry on Wednesday.  JV at 4:30 followed by the Varsity at 6:30.
