Lady Trojans take down Cairo in 9 innings
Kaylyn Hornaday collected three hits in five at-bats, as the Peach County Lady Trojans defeated Cairo 14-5 on Thursday. Hornaday doubled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
The Lady Trojans won thanks in part to nine runs in the ninth inning. Alyssa Crozier singled, scoring one run; Alyssa Smith singled, scoring one run; Breanna Jordan induced Akira Everett to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored; Saniya Martin doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run; Gracie Martin singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.
The Lady Trojans got on the board in the top of the first inning after Hornaday doubled, scoring two runs; Crozier grounded out, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored one run.
Cairo tied the game at the bottom of the sixth thanks to an error and a ground-out by Allie Persing.
Shaniyah Gibson earned the win for Peach County. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and five runs (two earned) over nine innings, striking out 12 and walking six. Jada Vickers took the loss for Cairo. The lefty went seven innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking five. Jordan started the game for Cairo. The righty surrendered four hits and eight runs (one earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking two.
Peach County accumulated 12 hits in the game. Crozier, Martin, Hornaday, and Everett each drove in two runs for the Lady Trojans. Gibson collected two hits for Peach County in four at-bats.
Peach County Lady Trojans will travel to ACE Charter for their next game on Monday, October 7 at 6:30 (JV at 4:30).
