Peach Volleyball sweeps Crawford County
There were a couple of three-set thrillers tonight as Peach County defeated the Crawford County Lady Eagles in JV and Varsity action by identical 2-1 scores.
In the JV match, Peach won 25-17, 23-25, and took the rubber game, 15-7, to win for the third time this season. Ryenne Stephens and Lena Hoffman played outstandingly throughout the match. Stephens served for nine straight points to close out the third set while Hoffman's play at the net kept Crawford from pulling off the upset.
The Lady Trojans had to battle throughout against their varsity neighbors to the north, and they finally secured their fourth win in four tries against the upstarts from Roberta.
Peach County lost the first set 23-25 as they committed seven service errors to give Crawford their first triumph ever over the Lady Trojans.
The Lady Trojans easily took set two, 25-10, before battling back from a five-point deficit to ease past Crawford 15-13 to win for the seventh time against 13 setbacks. The Lady Eagles are now 9-19 for the year.
Freshman Lillian Thornton served eight straight winners to come back from a 9-4 score in the third set to lead the Lady Trojans to victory.
Uzzhia Rumph paced the Peach team with 5 Aces, 3 Blocks, 2 Kills, and 3 Digs.
Alexia Heyward had 4 Aces and 3 Digs to aid in the win.
Peach County will host a Tri-Match on Tuesday to close out their regular season. The Lady Trojans will play Taylor County at 5:00pm. Taylor County will play Upson-Lee at 6:00pm. Peach County will finish out the night playing Region 2-AAA foe Upson-Lee at 7:00pm.
