eSports Recap - Week 4

eSports Recap - Week 4

Halfway through the spring season, several of our eSports teams are in the top 25 in their respective leagues, and some are even in the top 10. Let's recap this week's matches.

On Tuesday, our Splatoon A team defeated Paideia School out of Atlanta with a clean sweep 3-0 victory. Our Splatoon A team comprises Christian-Michael Rodriguez (captain), Samuel Brown, Jaquavion Watkins, and Savon Williams. They are currently ranked #9 in the state with a 3-1 record. The Splatoon B team won their match because the opponent forfeited it. They are ranked #21 in the state. Our Smash Brothers A team played a day early and defeated East Laurens High School 3-0. Jordan Woods, Khalil Watson, and Joshua Westbrook make up this squad. They are ranked #20 in A-4A with a 3-1 record.

On Wednesday, both B Team Smash and C Team Smash lost their matches to Sol C. Johnson HS and Claxton High School, respectively. B Team Smash is ranked #95 in A-4A, and C Team Smash is ranked #53 in A-4A. Devin Washington lost his NBA 2K match against a player from Rockdale County High School. He falls to #22 in the state with a 2-2 record. LeVaugh Scott, however, turned things around for the Trojans and 2-0'd his NBA 2K opponent from Callaway High School. He climbs to #12 in the state with a 3-1 record this season.

Thursday was also a good day for LeVaughn Scott as he defeated a player from Emanuel County Institute in Madden 24. He is the outright #1 player in the state right now in Madden in his first season participating in eSports. Joseph Jones lost his Madden match 2-1 against an MLK Jr. High School player. He falls to #31 in the state. Our Mario Kart team completely dominated Twiggs County, winning their match 2-0 and climbing to #49 in the state. Participants in PCHS in MarioKart included Kenneth Chidester, Khalil Watson, Joshua Westbrook, and Micah Lowder. Twiggs County's head coach is Jennifer Purvis, an assistant eSports coach for PCHS last year. This is their school's inaugural season and her first season as a head eSports coach.

This week, our player of the week for the second time this season is LeVaughn Scott. LeVaughn is currently #1 in Madden and #12 in NBA 2K. One of his NBA 2K matches was a nailbiter, and LeVaughn pulled out the win with a score of 51-50. LeVaughn has a great attitude each week and supports the other teams. We hope he continues to be successful in both titles this season.
