Boys Soccer win Jaguar Cup Championship
Saturday, our Trojans brought home the Championship Trophy for the first time this season, winning the Jaguar Cup Final versus the KONOS Academy Soccer Team! The game was a back-and-forth battle for 75 minutes, with quality chances on both sides being created. Micah Griggs had a great opportunity off a Juan Nieto cross early, but the KONOS GK denied the Trojans. KONOS pulled ahead in what appeared to be the game-winner in the 75th minute, but an undaunted Trojan team pressed for the equalizer less than three minutes later! Creative play from Juan Nieto forced a free kick by Brandon Glover for a goal, forcing the game into penalties! After the initial five shooters, it took the final penalty by Jesus Sanchez to put the game away, bringing the Jag Cup Trophy to Trojan Land! Tremendous play by Marcos Huerta, Alex Ortiz, and Brandon Glover should be noted as the Trojans pulled a hard-fought victory against an athletic KONOS Academy! The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, and the Trojans won in the second round of PKs.
Friday, our Trojan Soccer Team played a tough 4-2 loss to a strong Georgia Military Prep team in Milledgeville, GA. Goals by Brandon Glover and Julio Castaneda and strong defending by Aron Lopez and Alex Ortiz brought the Trojans even midway through the second half. GMC was strong and could capitalize on two defensive errors to pull ahead and take the game. Jerome Diaz and Juan Nieto were standouts in attack, creating several opportunities to climb back into the game. Unfortunately, goals were difficult to come by, and our Trojans were unable to pull even. GMC was a strong team and a good test for our boys.
